Floor Wars

Midwest FurFest is once again hosting a battle event known as Floor Wars! Last-Fur-One crew has been putting these events on since 2012 and each year it continues to grow and become an even better place for dancers to lay everything on the line in a tournament style battle. Will you be the one to claim the top spot?

This tournament style competition is open to both suiters and non-suiters alike. Dancers may choose to audition in whatever gear they would like but, a sign up prior to the convention is mandatory. Finalists will be chosen at the preliminaries event during the convention.

Please thoroughly review the rules before submitting your application!

Signups for Floor Wars 2023 are open now through November 13th at 11am CT!

FAQ

  • Yes, but keep in mind the time limit per round. A dancer that goes out after a routine will only be allowed the remainder of the designated round time.

  • Unless cleared beforehand by the event organizer, no.

  • Yes, due to the nature of the event there will be breaks between each battle! In regards to water, there are typically water stations located in the corners of both the prelims and finals locations. However we still recommend bringing your own supply just in case.

  • As an all-styles competition, we play all sorts of genres! Check out the following list of some music genres you can prepare for:

Battle Format

Each dancer will get a predetermined amount of time to dance(depending on the event/division), then a dancer from the opposing side will dance, and dancers will alternate back & forth. If you’re confused, refer to previous Floor Wars videos from Anthrocon, Midwest FurFest, and Furry Weekend Atlanta. In team battles, all members of the team must go out once per battle.

  • You may choose to be in suit or out of suit at your own discretion.

  • The first dancer to the floor has the option of making the opponent go first or second. Try to avoid requiring the bottle spin.

  • Each dancer gets two 45-60 second rounds.

Judging

These are only guidelines of what our judges might look for, not actual graded categories.

  • Dynamics – degree of difficulty is high, appeals to crowd and judges

  • Originality – moves are unique and not repetitive, or mimicked

  • Personality – dancer adds own character/flavor to their dance

  • Execution – moves flow well with the music, no sloppiness or mistakes

  • Response – how your moves/actions respond to your opponent – this is a BATTLE

By signing up and participating in Floor Wars, you agree to abide by all rules and regulations set forth in this document, as well as those set forth in the official Rules & Regulations and those set during the event. Failure to follow these rules will result in disqualification from the event.
